The Cash Flow Game is an educational game designed to help people
get out of the “rat race” and get on the “fast track” so they can be
financially free. The objective of the game is making passive income more
than total expenses. Think of it as an advanced financial game compared
to the world most popular board game Monopoly. I bought the Cash Flow
Game last year with the purpose of training my kids to have a head start
financially at their young age. However, the game is a bit complicated
for them to learn. I am also a beginner so it is hard for me to teach
them to play the game in a fun way. I found out there is a Cash Flow Club
in San Gabriel
meeting on the first Tuesday of each month. I decided to join the club to
find out a better way to play the game.
There were about 12 members playing the game. They are all high
paid people either from their job or from their businesses. We were
divided in 2 groups with 6 people in each group to play the game. In my
group, there were 2 people playing the game several times before so they
taught the rest of us how to play the game efficiently. We played about
90 minutes. None of us got out of the rat race but 2 were close to their
objectives. We discussed investment strategies and opportunities during
the game and trying to help each other out. It was a fun and new
experience for me.
After the game, we had 30 minutes discussing about the game and our
opinions. The club members are all well educated people with high paying jobs
or small business owners. They are aware of the importance of being
financially free so they come to learn how to do it. Besides me, there is
another full time stock trader in our group. Not surprisingly, the
attention quickly focused on stock trading. The host of the club is an
employee of the bank. To my surprise, he has little knowledge about stock
investment. He mentioned about he will have a new baby in January. His
insurance agent offers him an “exciting” life insurance product for his
new baby guarantee him a minimum of 3% annual return regardless of the
market condition. He was thrilled with that idea. However, after hearing
the story, the other stock trader in our group gave him a free lesson
about there is a better alternative to do it without paying all the
commission to the related insurance company and its agent. After
listening to the stock trader analysis, he has a second thought about
that “exciting” insurance policy.
Being financially free is everybody dreams, how to do it is another
reality. The Cash Flow Club members are aware of that reality and that is
why they come to learn and interact with each other. They have the gut to
think “outside the job”. Now they need to do it to make their financially
free dream becomes a reality.
