Part
Four: El Paso, Texas
After leaving Carlsbad, we continued
our journey to El Paso,
Texas. El
Paso is a Texan city just north of Mexico
State of Chihuahua. At one point, when we drove
along Interstate 10 Freeway, we could clearly see Mexican houses and
streets on other side of the border. We thought we could walk on the
international bridge for a closer look at Mexico. Our children were
apparently nervous when we parked our car and attempted to walk there.
However, since we did not bring our passports with us, we couldn’t set
our feet on the bridge.
El Paso has good
authentic Mexican food. We tried three different Mexican restaurants and
they were all good. We picked our restaurants base on recommendations
from car rental staff, hotel information brochure and Food Network
episode “The Best Food I Ever Ate”. We also drove the scenic drive after
dusk to see El Paso
night lights. Looking at El Paso night
lights surely reminds me the night lights of Hong
Kong harbor when my boat first approached there in 1979.
What a sweet memory!
Per my son request, we visited El Paso Zoo. This is a small zoo but it
is very well maintained. The zoo is surprisingly clean and neat. The zoo
animals look happy there. We also visited the outlet shopping mall to
take advantage of lower sale tax in El
Paso. Not surprisingly, we saw a lot of Mexican
tourists and locals in El Paso.
For a moment, I thought I was in Mexico
even though I was physically in El
Paso, Texas.
